Surviving The Fire
I was taught and so I learned
The heart and soul should never be turned
Told to remember money doesn’t really matter
Gold and fame can’t purchase heaven’s ladder
Aren’t you the one who told me to stand tall
Believe, have faith and don’t be afraid to fall
Didn’t you teach, if it was right I had to be strong
To care for others, unselfish deeds are never wrong?
Believe, have faith and don’t be afraid to fall
Didn’t you teach, if it was right I had to be strong
To care for others, unselfish deeds are never wrong?
Who would have thought, who would ever believe
That from each other’s good graces, we would ever leave?
I chose a path you judged unfit, thoroughly disapproved
Untouched by my achievements, small mountains moved
That from each other’s good graces, we would ever leave?
I chose a path you judged unfit, thoroughly disapproved
Untouched by my achievements, small mountains moved
That young heart broke, blurring the vision of naive eyes
Never saw any gray, only black and white, heard only truth or lies
A child doesn’t understand good intent, they don’t see
All they feel is pushed and shoved to be all they can be
Never saw any gray, only black and white, heard only truth or lies
A child doesn’t understand good intent, they don’t see
All they feel is pushed and shoved to be all they can be
Only when youth is gone can they see the other side
Everyone makes mistakes that can’t change, won’t hide
But the time has come to let you know
You have my love and respect, I wish to make it show
And just like you, I’m a survivor of a fire
Because of you, I learned how to climb higher.
Everyone makes mistakes that can’t change, won’t hide
But the time has come to let you know
You have my love and respect, I wish to make it show
And just like you, I’m a survivor of a fire
Because of you, I learned how to climb higher.
