Lady Unforgiven

There’s the woman who had a big heart
Now she’s left with a fraction, a small part
But keep your mercy, shed no tears
She took no advice, chose to face her fears
Made her decisions before told to choose
Knew security and comfort were anted to lose
Shown the map, she saw the path
Still thinking that she could maintain her laugh
Traveling that road so hard and not yet complete
Believing love could heal those meant to meet
Holding her faith, learned what was taught
Seeking strength to grow beyond finding fault
With knowledge of judgment served cold and harsh
Refused solid ground, chose to step into the marsh
She gave her heart, placed her life in his hands
Promised beside him to stay through all of time’s sands
What did she expect when she started to sink?
She broke her word, couldn’t stand, couldn’t think
She struggled, she pulled — but couldn’t get out
Yes, he saved her, came when he heard her shout
But he saw her as weak, knew that she had failed
In this light her past accomplishments paled
He had to come back, stand by her side
He saw only the part, saw only that she lied
Made him show his choice, put him to shame
Now she’d better shoulder and carry all of that blame
She’d cried, said,” Help me, please, I can’t go on!”
He had to choose her, instead of going ahead, going along
Sentenced to accept all of his anger and ire
Her apology and tears just add fuel to his fire
Although in the past she’d shown she was strong
He held light to the times she’d been wrong
She’d fallen, couldn’t rise without his aid
“Wouldn’t have been there, wouldn’t have stayed”
Without realizing he should have been there before her fall
He felt no desire to seek her out before she felt the need to call
Didn’t he miss her, didn’t he feel her lost?
Was saving her love that big of a cost?
