Many behaviours can be explained in terms of learned motives, motives acquired through classical or operant conditionoing. In particular these appear to be social motives, motives for behaviour that concerns relationships with others. The learned motives include aggression, affiliation, and motives for achievement and power.
Achievement Motivation
One factor in an individual's success is that person's need to achieve, a need to excel and overcome obstacles. Such achievement motivation is theorized to function independently of any desire for reward or response to incentives.
Some individuals interpreting stimuli in the Thematic Apperception Test(TAT) tell stories that are significacantly higher in success and achievement imagery than those of others. These individuals have been found to behave in achievement-oriented ways when presented with tasks and problems. Achievement-motivated behavioiur is characterized by ambitious but realistic goal-setting. It has been linked to child-rearing practices that emphasizeencouragement and independence.
Another factor in success may be an individual's need for power, the need for recognition by or influence over others. Measurements of the need for powerr have been related to a variety of behavious, from American preseidents' effectiveness to patterns of control and abuse in personal relationships.

A strong woman will not let anyone get the best of her . . . but a woman of strength gives the best of her to everyone.

A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey . . . but a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong.
