Durga Puja finds a special place among the festivals of India. It is celebrated by Bangla speaking people of the country and all over the world, to commemorate the triumph of goodness over the evil. Feasting and fasting are the two highlighting aspects of the ceremonious occasion, apart from the set up of magnificent puja pandals at every nook and corner of West Bengal. The busy streets of the eastern state of India are occupied with people, who enjoy all the ten days of the festival by worshipping Goddess Durga and making delicious dishes.
Although Bengalis are known for their sweet tooth, their cuisine consists of a number of spicy dishes as well. Nonetheless, they add a tinge of sugar to their dishes, in order to satisfy their taste buds. Some of the Bengali spicy dishes that have gained popularity over the years include Chola Dal, Bandhakopar Dalna and Aloo Posto. Bengalis are world-famous for the melt-in-the-mouth Roshogulla, which is their favorite sweet dish. The Bengali recipes are easy to make as well as take much less time. Aloo Posto

Bandhakopir Dalna
On the festive occasion of Durga Puja, the busy streets of West Bengal are occupied by people, who are in the mood of merrymaking and praising Ma Durga, the deity of power. People, who have not observed a fast during the festival, would take immense pleasure in making lip smacking recipes and share them with their loved ones.
Chola Dal
Durga Pooja, a ten-day festival, comprises of a number of rituals that are followed since ages. Apart from worshipping Goddess Durga during the occasion, people celebrate the festival by feasting. They cook a variety of dishes, which they share with their family, friends and acquaintances.
Labra
Labra is a scrumptious dish of West Bengal. It is a kind of mix vegetable recipe made along with curry. East to make and delicious to taste, this dish is also very nutritious and fulfilling. It contains several kinds of vegetables cooked on sim flame along with light spices.
Mishti Doi
Mishti Doi is one of the most popular Bengali recipes. Made of full cream milk and sugar, it is a delight for those who are born with a sweet tooth. Generally used as a dessert, this is a scrumptious recipe which requires a little patience as it takes a time of 8-12 hours for being ready to be served.
Nimki
Nimki also known as ‘Namak Pare’ are traditional north Indian snacks. Made of white flour, they are very tasty and light crunchy snacks that can be made anywhere anytime without any hassle. The best thing about this recipe is that it can be stored for a long time without using any kind of preservative.
Patishapta
Patishapta Pitha, Puli pitha, doodh puli and so are various varieties of pitha which are generally popular in Bengal. The Patishapta Pitha is a sweet with its outer layer made of flour and the inner stuffing made of different savories like coconut and dry fruits. It is generally prepared on occasions Makar Sankranti, Diwali and Durga Puja

India is a land of festivals and feasts. There are umpteen numbers of celebrations in the country which are accompanied by innumerable varieties of sweets and traditional recipes.
