Get to Know God

Believing in God is a process, a journey with many moments of discovery and decision. Faith is the key. The Bible teaches that faith is created in us when we believe two things, God exists and God responds to people seeking Him. You may already believe these two things enough to sense a feeling of faith within yourself even now that is inspiring you to hope that knowing God personally is possible. I hope that you continue reading and discover the miracle of experiencing the presence of your Creator who loves you deeply.
How can I know God personally?
The human spirit is possibly one of the greatest gifts we have from our Creator. Unlike any other living being, people have the capacity for intimacy with God, a genuine relationship that can grow deeper and more meaningful throughout our lives. God’s greatest desire is for this relationship to be a reality for you. The Bible teaches us that God loves us so much that He was willing to give His only Son, Jesus, to make our relationship with Him possible (John 3:16).

In the Bible, one finds this written about Jesus, "Who, though he was equal to God, did not demand and cling to his rights of equality with God, but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men. And he humbled himself even further, going so far as actually to die a criminal’s death on a cross." (Philippians 2:6-8) You and I can now experience God’s presence because Jesus was willing to suffer death to bring God and us together. That is why Jesus said that he is the only way to God (John 14:6).

All throughout the Bible one finds this recurring theme of God being holy, perfect, without any imperfections, pure. People on the other hand, have a tendency to be self-centered and wanting their own way. Of course, we have our moments of kindness and self-sacrifice but there is always this unyielding inclination towards "our way." Because the holiness of God is so pure and we are so flawed, no person can withstand being in His presence. Remember Moses? He asked to see God face to face, and God told him that was impossible. Moses was insistent so God agreed to pass behind Moses and even then, Moses’ face literally glowed when he came down from the mountain!
Jesus made possible for us what Moses could never experience.

By accepting Jesus’ death on your behalf, like a priceless gift you can never earn, you can stand in the presence of God, face to face. In fact, God literally wants to fill your life with His presence. The holiness of God, that Moses could not withstand, is now satisfied through Jesus’ death. Jesus has paid the price for our selfishness. He died in our place! If the value of something can be understood by its cost, then consider what it cost Jesus to make our relationship with God possible. Then, ask yourself how valuable this relationship with God must be to you and me.Now we’re back to your question, "How can I know God personally?" Well, you can start by praying right where you are."God, thank you for sending Jesus to die for me. I want to know You. Fill my life with your presence, and teach me what it means to live as one of your children."
