Mother's Day Poems

Mothers DayBy Carol Matthews

A Mother loves right from the start.
She holds her baby close to her heart.
The bond that grows will never falter.
Her love is so strong it will never alter.
A Mother gives neverending Love.
She never feels that she has given enough.
For you she will always do her best.
Constantly working, there's no time to rest.
A Mother is there when things go wrong.
A hug and a kiss to help us along.
Always there when we need her near.
Gently wipes our eyes when we shed a tear.
So on this day shower your Mother with Love.
Gifts and presents are nice but that is not enough.
Give your Mother a day to have some peace of mind.
Be gentle, be good, be helpful, be kind.
Happy Mothers Day.

Mother
By Ray Prillwitz
What day is this?
It's Mother's Day,
When children honor Mother.
To thank her for her care and love

That transcends all the others.
We think of how she kissed our hurtsAnd brushed away our tears.
She taught us truth and confidence
And talked away our fears.
She packed our lunch and sent us off

To school day after day;
And those, too young, she kept at home
And joined in with their play.
She cooked our meals and washed our clothes
And picked up all our toys.
She settled squabbles, bandaged knees,
And quieted our noise.A mother's job is never done;
It's full-time work, it's true.
No matter how much work she does
There's always more to do.

If Heaven grants a special crown
To one who helps another,
Then we are sure the greatest one
Will be for you--our Mother!

Somebody's Mother
By Mary Dow Brine

The woman was old and ragged and gray
And bent with the chill of the Winter's day.
The street was wet with a recent snowAnd the woman's feet were aged and slow.
She stood at the crossing and waited long,
Alone, uncared for, amid the throng

Of human beings who passed her by

Nor heeded the glance of her anxious eye.

Down the street with laughter and shout,
Glad in the freedom of 'school let out,
"
 Came the boys like a flock of sheep,
Hailing the snow piled white and deep.

Past the woman so old and gray

Hastened the children on their way.
Nor offered a helping hand to her
--
So meek, so tired, afraid to stir
Lest the carriage wheels or the horses' feet

Should crowd her down in the slippery street.
At last came one of the merry troop,

The gayest laddie of all the group;

He paused beside her and whispered low,

'I'll help you cross, if you wish to go."
Her aged hand on his strong young arm

She placed, and so, without hurt or harm,

He guided the trembling feet along,

Proud that his own were firm and strong.

Then back again to his friends he went,
His young heart happy and well content.

'She's somebody's mother, boys, you know,
For all she's aged and poor and slow,
'And I hope some fellow will lend a handTo help my mother, you understand,
'If ever she's poor and old and gray,
When her own dear boy is far away.'
And "somebody's mother" bowed low her headIn her home that night, and the prayer she saidWas, 'God be kind to the noble boy,
Who is somebody's son, and pride and joy!"

Wonderful Mother
By Pat O'Reilly

God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grows old;

He made her smile of the sunshine,

And He moulded her heart of pure gold;

In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that dear mother to me.

And Grandma's Too...

"While we honor all our mothers
with words of love and praise.
While we tell about their goodness

and their kind and loving ways.

We should also think of Grandma,

she's a mother too, you see....

For she mothered my dear mother
as my mother mothers me."

Mother's Love

Her love is like an island
In life's ocean, vast and wide
A peaceful, quiet shelter
From the wind, the rain, the tide.
'Tis bound on the north by Hope,By Patience on the West,
By tender Counsel on the South
And on the East by Rest.Above it like a beacon lightShine Faith, and Truth, and Prayer;
And thro' the changing scenes of life
I find a haven there.

A Mother's Love

There are times when only a Mother's love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappoints
And calm all of our fears.

There are times when only a Mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we've dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.

There are times when only a Mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.

For a Mother's heart and a Mother's faith
And a Mother's steadfast love
Were fashioned by the Angels
And sent from God above...
